Category: Ceylon (Sri Lanka) Black Tea

Tasting Notes: classic black tea

Description: Ceylon teas from this region of Sri Lanka are full-bodied and robust with a thick mouthfeel. Teas such as this low-grown elevation Ceylon tea, that is grown in the Ruhunu region of Sri Lanka, are more bold than high-grown Ceylon teas.  This Ceylon Lumbini OP1 (Orange Pekoe Grade 1) is a stunning example of this regional character.

A rich black tea with a rounded mouthfeel and sturdy flavor that stands up well to milk and sugar.  A classic tea with subtle notes of vanilla, cocoa, honey, plum, and tobacco.

A fabulous iced tea for those that love a classic brisk and robust traditional black iced tea.

This full-bodied Orange Pekoe tea is from the family owned Lumbini Estate. The tea garden was started in 1975 by Mr. Dayapala Jayawardana. It is now operated by his son Chaminda. The Lumbini Estate is located in Sri Lanka’s southern Ruhunu district. Growing at elevations up to 2,000 feet above sea level, this tea garden produces some of the most recognized and top awarded-winning Ceylon teas.

Ingredients: Ceylon black tea from Lumbini Estate in Sri Lanka in OP1 grade (orange pekoe)

Steep Directions: steep 1 heaping teaspoon of tea per 8 oz boiling water, 205-212°F, for 3-5 minutes

The thick mouthfeel is what sold me—it coats your tongue like real estate should, not that thin stuff from grocery bags. Brewed it strong this morning and the robust body carried through even with a splash of milk.

It’s my morning go-to now. The body is substantial without being harsh, and it holds up beautifully to a splash of milk without losing that classic Ceylon snap.

Zoe ★★★★★

The thick, syrupy mouthfeel really sets this apart—it coats the palate exactly as described, making it perfect for a slow morning cup. Steeped for four minutes, it stayed robust without turning bitter, and the classic flavor is deeply comforting.
