Category: EARL GREY

Tasting Notes: bergamot, brisk black tea

Description: A decaffeinated version of traditional Earl Grey. A blend of aromatic Italian bergamot oil and decaf black tea. A classic tea that is popular with milk and sugar or a slice of lemon.

Our decaf teas are created using the CO2 decaffeination process. The advantage of this technique is that no chemical solvents are used to remove the caffeine. In this manner of decaffeination, naturally occurring CO2 is applied to the tea leaf in a circulation process which carefully uses high pressure and temperature to extract the caffeine. A very slight residue of caffeine will remain in the tea leaf, which is why we call them decaf teas rather than no caffeine teas. There will be a slight change in the character and flavor of the tea due to the decaffeination process, but the end result is an uncompromising cup of tea with no chemical overtones.

Please note: If you'd like a 100% naturally caffeine-free tea, we suggest that you try our large selection of no caffeine teas such as: herbal teas, rooibos teas, honeybush teas, and fruit tisanes.

Ingredients: decaffeinated black tea, bergamot, orange, apple

Steep Directions: steep 1 heaping teaspoon of tea per 8 oz boiling water, 205-212°F, for 3-4 minutes

Brian ★★★★★

Even though it's decaf, the brisk black tea base keeps that classic Earl Grey structure intact, and the bergamot oil gives it a proper aromatic lift. I've been brewing it in the afternoon without worrying about a sleepless night, and it's become my daily wind-down ritual.

The bergamot comes through beautifully even without the caffeine, and it's brisk enough to feel like a proper cup of tea. I was skeptical about decaf losing flavor, but this one holds its own perfectly.

Violet ★★★★★

After dinner I wanted something comforting but couldn't risk the caffeine keeping me up, and this decaf version hits that brisk black tea note perfectly. The bergamot is present but not overpowering, and it steeps just like the real thing.
