Category: Assam Indian Tea

Tasting Notes: rich + malty

Description: A decaffeinated black tea from the Assam region of India. A medium-bodied black tea with hearty malty notes. This Decaf Assam is more hearty and earthy than our lighter and more brisk Decaf Ceylon. This is our original 'Decaf Black Tea' that we know call Decaf Assam since we've added the Decaf Ceylon.

Our decaf teas are created using the CO2 decaffeination process. The advantage of this technique is that no chemical solvents are used to remove the caffeine. In this manner of decaffeination, naturally occurring CO2 is applied to the tea leaf in a circulation process which carefully uses high pressure and temperature to extract the caffeine. A very slight residue of caffeine will remain in the tea leaf, which is why we call them decaf teas rather than no caffeine teas. There will be a slight change in the character and flavor of the tea due to the decaffeination process, but the end result is an uncompromising cup of tea with no chemical overtones.

Please note: If you'd like a 100% naturally caffeine-free tea, we suggest that you try our large selection of no caffeine teas such as: herbal teas, rooibos teas, honeybush teas, and fruit tisanes.

Ingredients: decaffeinated Assam black tea

Steep Directions: steep 1 heaping teaspoon of tea per 8 oz boiling water, 205-212°F, for 3-4 minutes

Steven ★★★★★

I was skeptical decaf would taste this close to the real thing, but the earthy, hearty body makes it perfect for a late afternoon cup with milk. It brews up a deep amber color and still has that satisfying Assam kick without the jitters.

Robert ★★★★★

The malty richness really holds up even though it's decaf, which is a win for my evening cup. It's got that hearty, earthy depth that reminds me of a proper Assam, just without the jitters keeping me up at night.
